Wingamm Oasi 540: Compact Italian RV Coming to U.S.

Over the last year, demand for recreational vehicles in the U.S. has increased dramatically as the ongoing pandemic changes the way Americans vacation, work and live. Taking advantage of this heightened demand, a leading provider of compact luxury RVs in Europe is now coming to America. The Italian-made Wingamm Oasi 540 offers luxury RV living in an efficient package that makes getting away — and staying on the road — much easier.

“My vision has always been to bring my family owned brand of compact European motorhomes to America,” said Lorena Turri, CEO of Wingamm. “Our plan came together when I met Tony Diamond and the TM Motorhome Sales team about two years ago at our headquarters in Verona, Italy. Tony was very enthusiastic about the changing trends in how Americans want to live and travel and the gap in the compact RV market that Wingamm could fill,” noted Turri. Wingamm entered the RV market in 1977 when the company moved from building fine furniture to outfitting custom vans.

The Oasi 540 will be the first Wingamm RV to roll on American roads. Built on a Ram Promaster chassis for the American market, this luxuriously compact Class B RV measures less than 18 feet long — shorter than a typical full-size pickup truck so it can fit into a common parking space. The Wingamm Oasi 540’s small footprint translates into easier maneuverability in locations that can be difficult for larger RVs, whether it be a tight campsite or a busy city street.

This Oasi 540 RV stands out from the typical Class B RV with a custom fiberglass monocoque shell that not only gives the coach a distinctive look, but also eliminates creaks and groans while driving. The fiberglass monocoque enables better thermal insulation as well. The Oasi 540’s cabinetry and doors are constructed of high quality wood and fine Italian laminates for a solid, premium look.

In addition to the impressive versatility of the Oasi 540, the luxury compact RV has the ability to handle 4-season cold weather. Polyurethane foam in the double-shell fiberglass monocoque provides excellent insulation, and radiant floor heating optimizes heat distribution while operating more efficiently. A Dometic unit on the roof provides air-conditioning or heating depending on the season.

Although this RV is small on the outside, the Oasi 540 offers a surprisingly roomy interior. This stunning Class B RV has more than six feet of headroom, and multiple windows and skylights add to the spacious feeling within the cabin.

Wingamm does a spectacular job lighting the interior of the Oasi 540. Multiple LED lights are located in the bottom of the retractable bed, with additional lighting under the overhead storage above the dinette and kitchen.

The overhead LED lighting in the Wingamm Oasi 540 can also be set to night mode, which changes the light to blue for a more relaxed evening vibe.

The Wingamm Oasi 540 cleverly maximizes interior space thanks to a large bed that retracts from the ceiling, thus eliminating sleeping areas that take up precious floor space during the day. The bed can be pulled down easily, and it also features a detachable ladder for quick access. The comfortable bed swings down from the cabover dome so this upper space doesn’t feel claustrophobic. Reading lights and shelving make the bed a pleasant spot for relaxation; a skylight at the head of the bed provides a spectacular view of the stars as weary wanderers drift off to sleep.

Even though the goal of Rving is to get away and enjoy the great outdoors, sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate and indoor time becomes unavoidable. Luckily the Wingamm 540 Oasi has plenty of room for occupants to spread out. The dinette easily seats four around a rectangular table — the two front seats swivel toward the table to create a comfortable living space. The Oasi can accommodate four occupants safely while underway, thanks to two seatbelts at the rear of the dinette in addition to the two up front for a total of four usable seats while driving.

The dinette table in the Wingamm Oasi 540 can be rotated and adjusted into multiple positions for maximum versatility. Positioning the table near the front bucket seats creates a convenient workstation. The table can also pivot into position as an additional kitchen countertop when creating complex meals.

When necessary, the dinette of the Oasi 540 folds down into a bed. Usable even with the primary bed deployed, the space is big enough for one adult or two small children.

The Wingamm Oasi 540 features a full kitchen with a sink, a two-burner stove and a refrigerator. The RV has enough counter space to properly prepare a meal and plenty of storage above and below.

Drawers feature soft-close mechanisms that add a premium touch. When closed the drawers are easily latched into place so nothing opens during transit.

Perhaps even more important to some folks than sleeping accommodations, a full bathroom can be the ultimate luxury while camping. And having a full bathroom (with shower) in an RV the size of the Wingamm Oasi 540 is practically unthinkable in the compact segment.

The Oasi 540 has a full standup shower with curtain, a ceramic cassette toilet and even a sink and vanity with counter space. The skylight and window are welcome touches that add a spacious feeling to the bathroom.

A large closet / wardrobe is located next to the entry door of the Oasi 540, with additional storage below — a convenient spot for stashing coats and shoes.

Granted, sewage is a stinky subject, although it’s something every RVer needs to deal with. Wingamm makes sanitation processing easy in the Oasi 540, thanks to a cassette system that plugs into the side of the RV. The system uses a catalyst to break down solid waste and, when full, the cassette can be removed and carried (or even rolled) like a suitcase to any bathroom and the contents dumped into a toilet and flushed. The cassette is accessed from the exterior of the RV, eliminating any chance of spills within the cabin while removing the cassette.

Additional storage below the dinette seating area can be accessed from the exterior of the coach as well. This location and exterior access creates a convenient place for stowing muddy, wet clothing or toys, eliminating the chance of tracking dirt into the RV. The space could also hold a cooler that can be stocked from inside the RV and accessed from the exterior.

At the rear of the Wingamm Oasi 540, another large storage area is ideal for outdoor items such as folding chairs, a table or other camping gear.

Since the Wingamm represents a unique offering in America, it will be sold in a distinctive manner as well. “These belong next to other aspirational products in a high-end retail setting,” said Tony Diamond, head of U.S. sales for Wingamm. While in California, we viewed the Wingamm Oasi 540 at Santa Monica Place, just a few feet from the Mercedes-EQS showroom in the mall — not bad company to keep.
