Two New Jeeps
Jeep debuted two new 4xe editions at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show: the Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary and Wrangler Willys 4xe. Celebrating 30 years of the iconic Grand Cherokee, Jeep chose the first-ever plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee as the version to honor this milestone, combining electrification with legendary 4-wheel-drive capability. The Grand Cherokee 4xe is rated at 56 MPGe, with all-electric range of 25 miles from a hybrid system that produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
“When the original Jeep Grand Cherokee debuted in 1992 by famously crashing through the glass at Cobo Hall, it literally shattered expectations and redefined what a premium SUV could be,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of the Jeep brand in North America. “Three decades later and more than 7 million Grand Cherokees sold . . . The Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary edition underscores how far the Grand Cherokee has come and is yet another example of the Jeep brand’s goal to be the electrification leader in SUVs,” Morrison enthused.
The Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary special edition is identified by a unique blacked-out exterior treatment with a modified front fascia, signature blue tow hooks, dual exhaust, a dual-pane sunroof, new 20-inch black wheels, and special-edition badges. The rear fascia is body color as well as the lower moldings, sill cladding and wheel flares.
30th Anniversary Interior
Inside, the Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary features black Capri leather seats, ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5, navigation with 3D graphics, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standard equipment includes front / rear park assist, intersection collision assist, passive entry, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a digital rearview mirror and a 360-degree surround view camera system.
The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary edition will be available for a limited time only, and will open for orders later this year. The price of the package is $4,700, and vehicles are scheduled to begin arriving at Jeep dealers by early 2023.
2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe
The second Jeep to debut at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show is the 2023 Wrangler Willys 4xe, combining the heritage and vintage look of the Wrangler Willys with the modern technology of the 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain. Motivated by the same hybrid system in the Grand Cherokee 4xe producing 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, the Wrangler Willys 4xe is rated at 49 MPGe with an all-electric range of 21 miles.
Easily Identified Willys
The Wrangler Willys 4xe is easily identified by its Willys decal on the hood trimmed in 4xe’s signature Electric Blue and an ‘Electric 4-Wheel Drive’ on the rear swing gate. The front and rear tow hooks are Electric Blue, and the Jeep and Trail Rated badges are also accented with blue.
“Jeep Wrangler 4xe customers looking for the ultimate combination of capability and electrification, with a vintage twist, can now have it in the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of the Jeep brand in North America. “The debut of the new heritage-inspired 2023 Wrangler Willys 4xe pairs 49 MPGe, 470 lb.-ft. of torque with unmatched Jeep capability . . . and a new entry price point to the 2023 model year Wrangler 4xe lineup, which continues to be the best-selling plug-in hybrid in America,” claimed Morrison.
Legendary Capability Continues
The brand’s legendary 4-wheel-drive capability continues with the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe standard equipment list, which includes a factory suspension lift that provides 10.1 inches of ground clearance, as well as a 2.72:1 Selec-Trac full-time 4WD system, 30 inches of water traversing, heavy-duty Dana 44 axles and LT255/75R17C mud-terrain tires.
