Italian automaker Lamborghini takes extreme to the next level with the introduction of the all-new Essenza SCV12, a limited-edition hypercar designated for track-use only and not legal for on-road driving. The Essenza possesses the most powerful normally aspirated V12 engine the company has ever produced, developed by Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse motorsports division. Ultimately the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 is a pure race car that its owners will get to experience on the track.

“Essenza SCV12 represents the purest track driving experience that our brand can offer, an engineering feat that highlights the inextricable link between our cars and the asphalt of the track” said CEO and Chairman of Automobili Lamborghini Stefano Domenicali. “Lamborghini is a brand constantly looking to the future and searching for new challenges, but we never forget our roots and who we are: Essenza SCV12 is the perfect combination of our unconventional spirit as a super sports car manufacturer and our true passion for motorsport,” Domenicali observed.

The Essenza SCV12’s normally aspirated V12 engine generates more than 830 horsepower, which gets delivered to the rear wheels via a new X-trac sequential 6-speed gearbox. This hypercar has a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque without an internal roll cage; the power-to-weight ratio is an impressive 1.66 hp/kg. The Italian automaker says the Essenza SCV12 is the first GT car developed to meet FIA prototype safety rules.

The track-ready package of the Essenza SCV12 is rounded out (pun intended) with magnesium wheels — 19-inch fronts, 20-inch rears — shod with specific Pirelli slick tires. Brembo Motorsports developed brakes exclusively for the Essenza SCV12.

The Essenza SCV12 was designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile, the automaker’s in-house design department. Centro Stile has been responsible for the design of all Lamborghini race cars since Squadra Corse’s inception. Looking to their experience with Lamborghini’s GT racing, designers created this new extreme model based on the Huracan road-car aerodynamics that already provide a high level of efficiency, as well as downforce levels higher than that of a GT3 car.

Sitting low and wide, the Essenza SCV12 has a dual air intake in the hood that separates hot air emitted by the radiator while directing cooler air to the air scoop on the roof. Other aero elements include a front splitter with two vertical fins on the side sills. Lamborghini’s traditional hexagonal styling is evident in the headlights as well as the shape of the rooftop air scoop.

The aft section of the Essenza SCV12 features a large adjustable double-profile spoiler as well as familiar hexagonal taillights. Dual exhaust pipes reduce backpressure while simultaneously improving performance and broadcasting the unique sound of Lamborghini’s most powerful normally aspirated V12 engine.

The Essenza SCV12 also features is a multifunction steering wheel inspired by those found in Formula One race cars. The display and primary controls are integrated within the wheel to minimize driver hand movements away from the wheel while on track. Lamborghini’s traditional hexagonal design continues inside with stylish vents on either side of the wheel. Seats are FIA homologated from OMP Racing, designed with a carbon shell to provide comfort, support and safety.

Customers who purchase an Essenza SCV12 get more than simply the car — they become part of an exclusive club. Owners get access to special programs that allow them to drive their SCV12s on some of the most famous racing circuits in the world. The track calendar begins in 2021 and features a number of “arrive and drive” events, meaning that Lamborghini will have owner cars at the track and ready to go. Emanuele Pirro, five-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans — along with the Squadra Corse technical staff — will be on hand providing assistance to SCV12 owner/drivers.

Each Essenza SCV12 also gets a personalized garage and dedicated services in a new hangar built near Lamborghini’s headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Webcams are provided so owners can check on their SCV12s at any time of day. The race hangar will also house the “Lamborghini Squadra Corse Drivers Lab,” which will offer athletic training programs similar to those of official Lamborghini race drivers.
