The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid features the new fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System with electronic on-demand all-wheel drive similar to other Toyota hybrid vehicles. The system employs a separate rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when needed. Toyota estimates fuel economy will be 37 mpg combined. The Corolla Cross Hybrid will be offered in three sporty new trim levels: S, SE and XSE; as well as the LE and XLE trims offered for the standard Corolla Cross.

The Corolla Cross Hybrid S and SE feature standard 17-inch alloy wheels, 8-inch touchscreens, sport-tuned suspensions, and LED headlights and taillights. The SE adds privacy glass, roof rails, paddle shifters, a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. The Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE is the sportiest version with 18-inch alloy wheels, premium LED headlights, Softex-trimmed seats, heated front seats and a power driver’s seat.

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid receives a new more powerful hybrid system with a separate rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when needed. The system combines a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with two motor-generators and a continuously variable transmission. The new hybrid system also adds a newly developed lithium-ion battery located under the rear seat. The system will deliver power to the rear wheels during acceleration and cornering to maximize traction under acceleration as well as stability during cornering.

The Corolla Hatchback gets a redesigned grille with chrome accents, revised LED headlights, a new rear bumper with chrome accents and new available 18-inch Gloss Graphite alloy wheels. The Corolla LE is now powered by the same 169-horsepower 2.0-liter Dynamic Force 4-cylinder engine as all the other Corolla trims. The second-generation Toyota GR86 Special Edition is powered by a new 2.4-liter flat 4-cylinder engine that generates 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The new engine produces 11 percent more horsepower and 18 percent more torque than the previous version, with peak torque delivered at 3700 rpm. The new engine improves acceleration from zero to 60 mph to 6.1 seconds with the 6-speed manual transmission and 6.6 seconds with the automatic transmission.

Two months after the official debut of the high-performance GR Corolla, Toyota announced an even more capable version with the track-focused GR Corolla MORIZO Edition, limited to 200 examples for the 2023 model year. Named for GR Master Driver and Toyota President Akio Toyoda, the GR Corolla MORIZO Edition features more power, a stiffer chassis, lighter weight and stickier tires. Powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, the MORIZO Edition shares the same 300 horsepower rating as other GR Corolla versions, although engineers retuned the engine to produce 295 lb-ft of torque at 3250 to 4600 rpm — a 22 lb-ft increase. The MORIZO Edition also receives an exclusive close-ratio intelligent manual transmission, a GR-Four all-wheel-drive system with selectable 30:70, 50:50 and 60:40 front-to-rear torque split, and dual limited-slip differentials with different gearing.

The GR Corolla MORIZO Edition uses the carbon fiber roof found on the GR Corolla Circuit Edition, although the MORIZO Edition weighs more than 100 pounds lighter due to the removal of the rear seat, rear door speakers, rear window regulators, rear wiper blade and rear wiper motor. The car also has lighter 18-inch forged alloy wheels finished in matte black and fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for additional grip. To increase rigidity engineers added two rear strut braces, additional spot welds and additional structural adhesive compared to the standard Corolla hatchback. Inside, the MORIZO Edition features Ultrasuede and leather seats with red trim, aggressive bolsters, harness holes and the GR logo. According to intel received for this Toyota Preview 2023, the GR Corolla MORIZO Edition will be available in Windchill Pearl or MORIZO Edition exclusive matte gray.
