The V-6 Power Struggle

There is quite a horsepower war going on between the rear-wheel drive V-6 coupes.? Most obvious is the Camaro/Mustang battle that started when the new Camaro was outfitted the 304-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 engine with VVT and 273-lb.ft. of torque and a 17 mpg city/29 mpg highway EPA rating.

Ford has upped the ante with their new 305-hp, 3.7-liter 4V Ti-VCT engine.? Torque is 280-lb.ft. and the EPA ratings are 19 mpg city/31 mpg highway.

Now Chevrolet is retaliating with a 2011 Camaro V-6 retuned to 312-hp, and 278-lb.ft. of torque. Not EPA numbers are available yet, however.

Slightly older, but just as potent is the Hyundai Genesis coupe with a 306-hp, 3.8-liter V-6 and 266-lb.ft. of torque. Fuel economy on that one is 17 mpg city /27 mpg highway.

The most horsepower in the grouping is the Infiniti G37 coupe ?with a 3.7liter V-6 producing 330-hp, 270-lb.ft. of torque and an EPA rating of 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway.

Just arriving on the scene is Cadillac?s new CTS Coupe with a 304-hp,3.6L V-6 VVT DI putting out 273 lb.ft. of torque and fuel economy of an EPA rating of 18 mpg city/27 mpg highway.

These cars are all very fast producing 0 to 60 mph in the five-second range, which is amazing for a V-6.? For shoppers looking for good performance and handling, along with some great styling, this bunch is as good as it gets.
