In 2016 Rolls-Royce introduced Black Badge as a permanent series — one that allows clients to commission individual cars with a darker, more modern style than traditionally expected from Rolls-Royce. Third in the series following the Wraith and Ghost, Rolls-Royce now debuts the Cullinan Black Badge, offering clients the option to commission the marque’s newest model with the same level of edgy individual style and options.

“Black Badge reflects the desires of a distinct group of Rolls-Royce clients: men and women who take risks, break rules and build success on their own terms. The time has come for Rolls-Royce’s boldest and darkest expression of Black Badge yet. The King of the Night, Black Badge Cullinan,” said Torsten Muller-Otvos, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

According to Rolls-Royce, one in five Rolls-Royce customers who commission a bespoke car choose Black Badge. Cullinan is the most popular model for clients who wait months — even as long as a year — for a vehicle specifically tailored to their exacting specifications.

Distinctive Black Badge details for Cullinan include the Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy mascot on the hood, darkened to a high gloss black chrome; as well as iconic Rolls-Royce badges inverted to silver on black. Elements traditionally chrome on Rolls-Royce models are also darkened, including the grille surround, lower air inlets, side window trim, rear trim and exhaust outlets. The vertical bars in the grille remain polished. Multiple layers of paint and lacquer are applied and hand-polished for up to five hours — a comprehensive finish process for a solid paint scheme.

The Black Badge Cullinan features all-new, exclusive, 22-inch forged alloy wheels that reflect the Black Badge theme. For the first time ever, Rolls-Royce offers colored brake calipers, with Black Badge Cullinan calipers finished in high-gloss red, adding a stark contrast to the new dark wheels.

The Cullinan Black Badge also has performance upgrades to reflect its exclusive aesthetic, including a more powerful 6.75-liter V12 engine that produces 600 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Black Badge Cullinan features the Rolls-Royce Intuitive Throttle for a more aggressive transmission shift pattern, and the suspension and drive dynamic technologies are tuned for a more engaging experience. Drivers also have the ability to select a new Black Badge exhaust setting for a lower, deeper exhaust sound.

Interior features for the Cullinan Black Badge include a new carbon-fiber finish with repeating geometrical shapes in a three-dimensional effect created by collaboration between designers, engineers and craftspeople. This Technical Fiber trim is finished with six coats of lacquer and cured for 72 hours before being hand-polished to a mirrorlike finish.

A signature feature that simulates the night sky on previous Rolls-Royce models, the Starlight Headliner makes its Cullinan debut on the Black Badge variant. The Cullinan headliner is black leather with 1,344 individual fiber optic cables, adding a new shooting star feature with eight brilliant white shooting stars.

Rolls-Royce interior designers created a bold new leather color for Cullinan Black Badge: Forge Yellow, which will also become an option in the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Viewing Suite for any future client commissions.

Rolls-Royce Black Badge vehicles incorporate the infinity symbol — the mathematical symbol that represents potential infinity — and also signifies a value that increases without limit. Sometimes referred to as a lemniscate, the infinity symbol is discreetly integrated throughout the interior of the Black Badge Cullinan. The infinity symbol was first applied to Sir Malcolm Campbell’s record-breaking Rolls-Royce-powered Bluebird K3 hydroplane of the 1930s.
