At Acura’s Performance Management Center in Marysville, Ohio, every NSX sports car — the brand’s halo vehicle — gets hand assembled by master technicians. Now this special treatment will be given to the Acura RDX crossover SUV. Following PMC Editions of the TLX and MDX, the RDX will produce a PMC variant that tops the popular crossover’s lineup — the 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition.

The 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition will be painted exclusively in head-turning Thermal Orange Pearl — a color it shares with the high-performance NSX. Technicians apply the special paint in multiple base coats to enhance color intensity. Then a mid-coat of gold and orange mica gets applied to create a pearlescent effect in the sunlight, and finally four layers of clearcoat seal the deal to increase the paint’s luster and protect the finish. The total time for painting, including curing, is five days.

Like the NSX, each RDX PMC Edition will be hand assembled before undergoing a thorough inspection. Once the process is complete, technicians carefully wrap each vehicle in a protective film, and then the car gets shipped to an Acura dealer in an enclosed single-car carrier.

To contrast with the retina-burning Thermal Orange Pearl paint, the 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition gets a black Diamond Pentagon grille with a body color surround. The roof, door handles and mirrors are all covered in gloss black paint as well.

Acura combines the features of the RDX A-Spec and the RDX Advance Package to create the fully loaded RDX PMC. All RDX PMC Editions will feature the brand’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive as standard equipment.

All Acura RDX models are powered by a VTEC Turbo 2.0-liter direct-injection engine that produces 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, teamed with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

While the exterior color palette of the RDX PMC Edition is orange with black trim, the interior color scheme is the opposite. Sport seats are swathed in Ebony Milano leather with black Ultrasuede inserts and stitched in a contrasting orange.

The black and orange theme continues in the Acura RDX PMC Edition with the leather-wrapped steering wheel, also with orange stitching.

Each Acura RDX PMC Edition will feature a numbered serial plate in the center console, further showcasing the exclusivity of this limited-run variant.

Acura will produce a mere 360 RDX PMC Editions for North America, with the first customer deliveries expected to take place in October — an appropriate month given the car’s color scheme. Final pricing has not been released; expect the RDX PMC Edition to be priced in the low $50,000 range.
