Hyundai Veloster?s Youthful Appeal

Coming to America in Summer of 2011

Hyundai?s recent heavy emphasis on innovative design is starting to bring forth some exciting new results like the exciting Veloster coupe concept shown at the recent North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Styled at Hyundai?s Design and Technical Center at Namyang, Korea the Veloster coupe is the third in a series of daring concept cars to be developed by the company?s central styling studio.

The Veloster name comes from combining velocity and roadster.? Designed to evoke the sporty characteristics of a classic 2+2 coupe Veloster uses futuristic styling cues to help project a high-tech image.

Hyundai?s goal was to create a radically new car for Gen-Y, catering to the tastes of the first-time, 20-something buyer. This sporty coupe combines simple, iconic design with good value and robust construction which they think is an ideal combination for today?s young consumers

Hyundai Motors of America CEO John Krafcik said the company did less well with Gen Y customers than with older buyers, so the Veloster is designed to have a more youthful appeal.? It?s scheduled to debut in the summer of 2011, with prices starting at around $17,000.

A 1.6-liter gasoline direct-injection engine teamed with a dual-clutch transmission developed by Hyundai, power the Veloster. The combination is expected to achieve a 40 mpg highway fuel economy rating.

The car will have the new Blue Link telematics system which is operated through a central touch screen offering services such as automatic crash alerts, roadside assistance, voice-to-text message capability and other infotainment applications.
Hyundai expects to sell about 40,000 Velosters annually, according to, Hyundai’s executive vice president of sales, said Dave Zuchowski.
