As the Korean automaker’s flagship sports sedan, the 2022 Kia Stinger adds a new standard turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, exterior design updates and interior detail refinements. The 2022 Stinger can be distinguished from previous model years by LED lighting with new daytime running lights, new wheel designs and larger quad exhaust outlets.

“The Stinger confidently shows Kia’s ability to build a sport sedan that can compete — and beat — the best the world has to offer,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia Motors North America and Kia Motors America. “It is definitive proof of our proud and evolving engineering prowess,” Yoon enthused.

The 2022 Kia Stinger will be offered in three trim levels: GT-Line, GT1 and GT2. A special-edition Stinger Scorpion is scheduled to arrive in late spring 2021. For 2022 the Stinger’s standard LED headlights feature a new DRL design, as well as optional Stinger-Signature LED headlights and daytime running lights. Kia’s new logo takes pride of place above the grille and also at the center of the new 18-inch and 19-inch wheel designs.

At the rear, the new LED taillight design of the 2022 Kia Stinger spans the width of the liftgate; the GT1 and GT2 trims have additional LEDs including LED turn signals. The model’s Stinger script moves to the center of the liftgate below the taillight in place of the Kia logo. That said, the most noticeable changes are the large quad exhaust outlets.

As the starting trim level for Stinger, the GT-Line derives power from a new turbocharged 2.5-liter engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, available with rear-wheel drive or available torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. Kia estimates a zero to 60 mph time of 5.2 seconds. The new engine produces 45 more horsepower and 51 more lb-ft of torque than the previous turbocharged 2.0 liter. Fuel economy is estimated at 22 mpg city / 32 mpg highway / 25 mpg combined.

Kia estimates zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. A new electronic variable exhaust system adds some fun to the exhaust note.
