2021 Ford Ranger Tremor
Today Ford revealed the new Tremor Off-Road Package for the 2021 Ranger, a combination of optional equipment and features that the automaker says creates the best Ranger for off-road use ever offered directly from the factory. The 2021 Ranger Tremor includes lifted suspension with FOX 2.0 monotube dampers, tuned springs and 32-inch Continental General Grabber all-terrain tires.
Off-Road Confidence
“Tremor gives Ranger customers a new level of off-road confidence and fun,” said Chad Callander, Ford Ranger marketing manager. “With increased ground clearance, off-road tuned suspension and aggressive Continental General Grabber tires, Tremor elevates Ranger’s off-roading capability even further while keeping the unique advantages that come with a cargo box for hauling gear anywhere,” Callander said.
Ranger Tremor Appearance
Distinctive characteristics of the 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor include a Magnetic-painted grille surround with black bars and red accents in the corners. Tremor also features new wheel-lip moldings, Magnetic-painted 17-inch wheels and the aforementioned 32-inch Continental tires that give the truck a slightly wider stance. The package also includes hoop-style steps, a front bash plate, Tremor badging on both sides of the cargo box, and optional hood and body graphics. Inside, Ranger Tremor features exclusive seats with Miko suede inserts, the truck’s name stitched into the seatbacks, as well as black accents. Ranger Tremor also includes a dash-mounted six-switch auxiliary powerpack to control accessories such as a winch or light bar.
Lifted Suspension
The 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor suspension upgrades include FOX 2.0 monotube dampers with remote rear reservoirs, as well as hydraulic rebound stops tuned for a comfortable ride on pavement while retaining off-road performance. The specially-tuned shocks have progressive rebound damping for more control in severe conditions.
Suspension Tuning
The front coilover springs and rear leaf springs are also tuned for better off-road performance, and the multi-leaf rear springs allow increased wheel travel. Front suspension travel increases to 6.5 inches, and rear suspension travel increases to 8.1 inches. Anti-roll bar stiffness has been reduced as well to improve off-road performance.
Off-Road Metrics
The Tremor package also improves the numbers used to measure Ranger’s off-road capability. Compared to the base Ranger SuperCrew 4 x 4, Tremor offers a 30.9-degree approach angle (an increase of 2.2 degrees); a 35.5-degree departure angle (an increase of 0.1 degrees); and 24.2-degree breakover angle (an increase of 2.7 degrees).
Other Tremor Equipment
Additional standard equipment for off-roading in the 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor includes underbody skidplates, a locking rear differential, a Terrain Management System with four drive modes and Trail Control. The traction control system is recalibrated to give Tremor improved acceleration and traction on gravel.
Under the Hood
The 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor gets power from a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine producing 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission, standard 4-wheel drive and an electronic locking rear differential.
Pickup Utility
Although Ranger Tremor is engineered to improve off-road capability, it still retains its pickup truck utility with a 1,430-pound maximum payload. When equipped with the available towing package, the Tremor also offers a 7,500-pound maximum towing capacity.
Daily Driver
“Ranger Tremor can be your daily driver during the week then transform into your off-road adventure vehicle come Saturday morning,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “With its added off-road capability combined with the six-switch auxiliary bank and more than 200 Ranger-specific dealer-installed available accessories, Ranger Tremor is a very capable overlanding rig,” Eckert confirmed.
2021 Ranger Tremor
Priced at $4,290, the Tremor Off-Road Package is available with the 2021 Ford Ranger XLT or Ranger Lariat in the SuperCrew 4 x 4 configuration. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2021 at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan.
