Kia has put an amazingly large amount of ingredients into their brand new SUV, the Sportage. But does it have the ingredients, it needs to win. After all, the king of the pile is Toyota with their RAV4 and there’s also Honda’s CRV. Is this going to be the new king of the pile?
Sportage is Kia’s longest-running nameplate in the US and has a strong Legacy. The first vehicle ever to compete in both the Paris to Dakar rally and the Baja 1000. The brand was Kia’s second bestseller in the US last year. The 2023 Kia Sportage looks very different from past generations. There is no missing the bold new front end of the Kia Sportage, starting off with the swoosh of this LED daytime running headlights and of course the first time the Sportage gets the new Kia logo upfront. It’s all embedded around that brand new tiger-nose grill.
There are the different levels of this new Sportage. There is the off-road version, the plug-in hybrid version, and the hybrid version. These are directly going up against the competition, this is now a vehicle that has best-in-class elements, that is going to try and take over the number one spot in the best family CUV segment.
This is the first time Kia ever had an X-pro model and that means off-road capable as we get out to Summer and do some memorable adventuring in this vehicle, having a little off-roading fun with higher ground clearance makes this so much more fun and that’s fun with a capital F.
The drive becomes more solid and has much-improved steering feel along with better turning. You get 187 horsepower from the 2.5-liter inline-4 engine that is well matched on, and off-road. Kia has big plans for the 2023 Sportage, for the first time the sport will be assembled in America. Kia has the opportunity of closing the gap between Honda and Toyota, which currently rule the subcompact CUV segment. The ingredients are all here for a winner. Now it’s up to you. Will you buy it?
