The 2023 Genesis GV60 is the first dedicated electric model from Genesis — a high-performance EV with an athletic design and innovative new technology including Face Connect and the Crystal Sphere (read on for more about this tech). The luxury division of Hyundai Motor, Genesis adds the GV60 to the lineup as the first dedicated electric model following the Electrified G80 — the electric version of the existing G80 model — as Genesis moves toward the goal of becoming an all-electric vehicle brand by 2030.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 Performance is all-wheel drive, motivated by two potent 160 kW electric motors — one at the rear powering the rear wheels, and another at the front powering the front wheels. Total system output is 429 horsepower, with a Boost Mode that increases total power to 483 horsepower for 10 seconds, propelling the GV60 from zero to 60 mph in 4 seconds, according to Genesis.

Power gets stored in a 77.4 kWh battery for an estimated driving range of 235 miles. The U.S. EPA-estimated fuel economy rating for the 2023 Genesis GV60 is 97 MPGe city / 82 MPGe highway / 90 MPGe combined. Genesis has partnered with Electrify America to offer three years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions. Electrify America currently has more than 800 charging sites and 3,500 DC fast chargers.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 offers a distinctive, unique exterior design thanks to the advantages offered by an EV that no longer restrict design creativity. The GV60 has a clamshell hood that wraps to include the front fenders. The signature Genesis Crest Grille sits much lower due to the different cooling requirements of an electric vehicle. The two-line headlight and taillight design is similar to other Genesis models.

The fast roofline of the 2023 Genesis GV60 creates a coupelike silhouette, finished with a spoiler at the base of the rear window. A chrome line that begins at the upper corner of the windshield follows the roofline but adds a distinctive V shape before ending at the edge of the rear spoiler. The shoulders of the rear fenders create a wide stance, finished with two-line taillights.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 interior offers a spacious, comfortable environment that includes a floating center console and a flat floor to create a sense of openness. Designers chose specific materials for the interior, including eco-friendly and recycled products to make GV60 more sustainable. The seats, door armrests, console armrests and other pads are made with plant-based leather. The seat covers and door trim includes fabrics composed of yarns from recycled PET bottles and fishnets.

The most unique interior design element in the 2023 Genesis GV60 is the Crystal Sphere. Located on the floating center console, the Crystal Shere is a lighted orb when the vehicle is turned off. When the GV60 is ready to drive, the sphere rotates to expose a shift-by-wire controller.

More new tech in the 2023 Genesis GV60 is Face Connect, which allows the driver to use facial recognition to lock or unlock the vehicle without a key. Once registered with the vehicle, the driver only needs to touch the door handle and present their face to the camera in the B-pillar to unlock the vehicle. Once inside, the driver can use a fingerprint authentication system to start and drive the vehicle without the need to carry a key.

© GenesisRegenerative Brakes
The 2023 Genesis GV60 features a regenerative brake system that uses the electric motors as generators to capture energy and story it in the battery. The system allows the driver to choose between four regen levels, which adjust the aggressiveness of the regenerative brakes for various conditions and driving styles. With the least amount of regen selected, the GV60 will essentially coast, and the most aggressive will bring the vehicle to a complete stop, allowing one-pedal driving. The driver selects the regen level with paddles mounted behind the steering wheel, similar to shift paddles in other vehicles. In the lower levels, the driver can increase the amount of regen by holding back on the left paddle.

Fast, nimble and responsive, the 2023 Genesis GV60 is incredibly fun to drive. Punch the Boost button on the steering wheel and it’s easy to believe the claims of zero to 60 mph in 4 seconds.

The regenerative brake system in the 2023Genesis GV60 is impressive, and the driver’s ability to choose the regen level adds to the driving experience. While cruising at highway speeds we prefer Level 0 with minimum regeneration, so the experience feels similar to coasting when releasing the accelerator. For spirited driving on winding back roads, the more aggressive regen of Level 2 or 3 adds to the car’s balance and dynamics as it enters corners. Level 3 combined with Sport mode provides the GV60 with an aggressive authority to attack the road, making this crossover feel much like a responsive sport sedan.

The GV60 is smooth and elegant yet powerful and fast.
