The 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty will be offered with four available engines, starting with a new standard 6.8-liter V8 gasoline engine designed to provide more low-end torque to improve performance when starting on steep grades or when merging onto highways. Ford has not released final horsepower and torque ratings for any of the engines. For the available 7.3-liter unit, Ford is targeting the best horsepower and torque ratings in the class for a gasoline engine with improved air intake and revised tuning.

Diesel engines are popular in the heavy-duty truck segment, and Ford will offer two Power Stroke diesel engine choices. For the 2023 model year, the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine will offer longer intervals between oil changes. The new high-output 6.7-liter diesel also receives a unique turbo, upgraded exhaust manifolds and unique tuning, with a stated goal of possessing the best horsepower and torque in the segment. Every Super Duty gets fitted with a Ford-designed-and-built 10-speed TorqShift automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is standard equipment on the XLT trim and above.

The 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty features a new Ford Pro Upfit Integration System that provides aftermarket equipment manufacturers with improved access to the Super Duty’s electrical system and signals. This means equipment integrates more easily so it can be operated through the truck’s displays. Cloud-based software connects to the UIS, so equipment makers can add digital buttons and high levels of customization so drivers can control equipment from inside the truck — a big win during inclement weather. The system also allows for safety interlocks such as preventing the transmission from shifting into Drive when a boom lift is raised.

The 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty offers new available driver-assistance technologies designed to simplify the towing experience and induce confidence in the driver. Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch estimates cargo weight in real time and provides guidance on trailer tongue weight distribution with information delivered to the center touchscreen, FordPass app or within the Smart Taillamps. An available 360-Degree Trailer Camera Kit creates a bird’s-eye view of the truck and trailer when four available wired cameras are attached to the trailer. A blind-spot information system for fifth-wheel trailers can be attached to the trailer, helping identify when vehicles are next to the trailer.

The 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty also offers an available Tailgate Down Camera and Tailgate Down Reverse Sensing System with a new camera and backup sensors in the top of the tailgate. These make backing up to a dock or hitching the gooseneck of a fifth-wheel trailer even easier. Another available feature called Pro Trailer Hitch Assist automatically backs up the truck and aligns the conventional hitch ball with the trailer receiver. Finally, Trailer Navigation plots the best route with given trailer weight and dimensions to avoid issues such as low bridges or tight turns.

“Our goal was to leave drivers with zero blind spots, even when towing the longest trailers,” said Andrew Kernahan, Ford Super Duty chief engineer. “Camera views provide every angle, from simulating a drone to making sure customers can see behind the truck even when the tailgate is down. Hitching and towing has never been easier,” Kernahan observed.
