2022 Kia Stinger
As the Korean automaker’s flagship sports sedan, the 2022 Kia Stinger adds a new standard turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, exterior design updates and interior detail refinements. The 2022 Stinger can be distinguished from previous model years by LED lighting with new daytime running lights, new wheel designs and larger quad exhaust outlets.
“The Stinger confidently shows Kia’s ability to build a sport sedan that can compete — and beat — the best the world has to offer,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia Motors North America and Kia Motors America. “It is definitive proof of our proud and evolving engineering prowess,” Yoon enthused.
The 2022 Kia Stinger will be offered in three trim levels: GT-Line, GT1 and GT2. A special-edition Stinger Scorpion is scheduled to arrive in late spring 2021. For 2022 the Stinger’s standard LED headlights feature a new DRL design, as well as optional Stinger-Signature LED headlights and daytime running lights. Kia’s new logo takes pride of place above the grille and also at the center of the new 18-inch and 19-inch wheel designs.
At the rear, the new LED taillight design of the 2022 Kia Stinger spans the width of the liftgate; the GT1 and GT2 trims have additional LEDs including LED turn signals. The model’s Stinger script moves to the center of the liftgate below the taillight in place of the Kia logo. That said, the most noticeable changes are the large quad exhaust outlets.
Scorpion Special Edition
The special-edition Stinger Scorpion adds a rear spoiler, black wheels exclusive to Scorpion, black lower front fender trim, black mirror caps and darker exhaust outlets. Interior trim follows a carbon fiber pattern. Available exterior colors are Snow White, Aurora Black and Ceramic Silver.
Under the GT-Line Hood
As the starting trim level for Stinger, the GT-Line derives power from a new turbocharged 2.5-liter engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, available with rear-wheel drive or available torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. Kia estimates a zero to 60 mph time of 5.2 seconds. The new engine produces 45 more horsepower and 51 more lb-ft of torque than the previous turbocharged 2.0 liter. Fuel economy is estimated at 22 mpg city / 32 mpg highway / 25 mpg combined.
Under the GT Hood
The Stinger GT1 and GT2 are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine producing 368 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque — a slight increase of 3 horsepower over the previous model. The twin-turbo V6 also gets combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, in addition to available rear-wheel drive or torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. Kia estimates zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. A new electronic variable exhaust system adds some fun to the exhaust note.
Inside, the 2022 Kia Stinger adds gloss black and chrome trim on the instrument panel as well as new LED ambient lighting with a choice of colors. The GT1 and GT2 variants receive stitching on the door panels, and the available Nappa leather seats include a chain link pattern.
The 2022 Kia Stinger gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation as standard equipment, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new Stinger also has multi-connection Bluetooth wireless split-screen functionality and wireless charging. A larger 4.2-inch color TFT center display is standard, and an available 7-inch center cluster provides a live video view of adjacent lanes with an available blind-spot view monitor when activated by a turn signal. The center display also shows images from the surround view monitor.
Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems
Stinger’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems include forward collision-avoidance assist with junction turning, safe exit assist, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic avoidance assist, navigation-based smart cruise control, lane-following assist and highway driving assist.
UVO Link Telematics
Kia’s UVO link telematics offers a variety of advanced connected vehicle features including connected routing, connected weather and enhanced UVO voice assist, which allows voice control of the Stiner’s climate-control system, heated seats, heated steering wheel, audio system and other functions.
The 2022 Kia Stinger lineup begins with the GT-Line at an MSRP of $36,090. Stinger GT1 starts at $43,690 and the GT2 at $51,290. Prices do not include a destination charge of $1,045. All trim levels are offered with AWD at an additional cost of $2,200.
Sun and Sound
The automaker also offers a Sun and Sound package for the 2022 Kia Stinger GT-Line for $2,300 — it includes a sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen audio system with navigation, a Harmon Kardon premium audio system as well as an 8-way power passenger seat.
Expect the 2022 Kia Stinger to begin rolling into dealership showrooms during spring 2021.
