Today BMW announced that ALPINA will expand its offerings in the U.S. market via the 2022 BMW ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe, which will take its place alongside the ALPINA B7 Sedan and ALPINA XB7 Sports Activity Vehicle. Recognized as an independent manufacturer in Germany, ALPINA has cultivated a technical partnership with BMW AG for decades and has earned a well-deserved reputation for producing high-performance variants of BMW models.

The latest model to receive this high-performance Teutonic treatment, this special B8 Gran Coupe is immediately identifiable as an ALPINA model by a signature 20-spoke wheel design and aerodynamics that are further optimized with subtle ALPINA upgrades. At the front, large air intakes ensure sufficient airflow to the engine, and at the rear the ALPINA apron includes a black diffuser as well as an ALPINA lip spoiler on the decklid.

BMW ALPINA models are synonymous with high performance, and the 2022 BMW ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe draws power from a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine producing 612 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque from 2000 to 5000 rpm, mated with an 8-speed Sport Automatic Transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive.

The engine of the 2022 BMW ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe benefits from an ALPINA stainless steel sport exhaust system with dual twin exhaust outlets integrated into the rear valence. Switching from Comfort to Sport mode engages the active exhaust flaps for a louder, more engaging exhaust note.

The 8-speed Sport Automatic Transmission with ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC has been developed for the 2022 BMW ALPINA G8 Gran Coupe — in conjunction with German parts maker ZF — to provide a high level of dynamic performance while maintaining smooth shifting comfort. Comfort mode allows relaxed cruising at low rpm, and Sport mode is optimized for performance by incorporating faster, more direct shifts. Manual mode offers fast shifts taking only milliseconds.

According to BMW specifications, the 2022 BMW ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 second and eclipse a quarter mile in 11.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 201 mph.

The ALPINA Sport Suspension developed for the 2022 BMW ALPINA B8 Gran Couple creates a balance between precise handling and ride comfort for a variety of driving situations. Hydro mounts for the front struts improve ride comfort in conjunction with Eibach springs that contribute to overall suspension balance. Stiffer suspension support mounts and reinforced sway bars improve dynamic responsiveness.

The Integral Active Steering system of the 2022 BMW ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe offers direct response and feedback, and the Active Kinematics Control System from ZF enables 4-wheel steering. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn opposite the front wheels for better dynamic response; at higher speeds, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels for improved stability.

The classic 20-spoke ALPINA wheels on the 2022 BMW ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe are 21 inches in diameter, fitted with specially developed Pirelli ultra-high-performance tires that are 245/35ZR21 on the front and 285/30ZR21 on the rear. The wheels feature a lockable center cover displaying the ALPINA logo. ALPINA CLASSIC 20 — twenty-inch forged aluminum wheels — are also available, fitted with either all-season or winter tires; they are also a 20-spoke design but without the center hub cover.
