In an era when most indicators point to hybrids and electric cars taking the reins as the future of the automobile, enthusiasts continue to rejoice that a brand such as Dodge still exists. There seems to be no limit to the raw power this company is willing to put under the hood of a production car, and the latest model to celebrate this great notion is the all-new 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye. With almost 800 horsepower on tap, the new Charger Redeye will be the most powerful mass-produced sedan in the world.
Most Powerful Sedan: Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye
Family-Friendly Muscle
“The magic of the Dodge Charger is that it delivers all the performance of a true American muscle car while also being able to deliver a family of four or five, day in and day out,” said Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars — Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA — North America Tim Kuniskis. “The Charger is a big, comfortable, five-passenger sedan that can run the quarter-mile in the mid-10s, 0-60 in the mid 3s and reach a top speed of 203 mph and be your daily driver,” Kuniskis observed.
Aggressive Stance
The 2021 Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye comes with Dodge’s new Widebody exterior that features integrated fender flares and adds 3.5-inches to the body. Not only does this improve overall handling, but it also makes room for 20-inch Lightweight Carbon Black wheels shod with Pirelli 305/35ZR20 tires. A new performance hood with a large functional hood scoop adds to the overall aggressive look and provides additional airflow to the big V8 as well.
Big HEMI
Under the hood of the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye, is the engine that powered the outrageous Challenger SRT Demon, alas no longer in production — a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI high-output V8 that generates 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the V8 in the standard Hellcat, this features 25 major component upgrades including a larger supercharger, strengthened connecting rods and pistons, a high-speed valvetrain, a fuel-injection system, and an improved lubrication system. Power gets transferred to the rear wheels via a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission.
Very Fast
Performance figures for the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye are impressive — although not surprising — with so much power on tap. This full-size sedan takes about 3.5 seconds to reach 60 mph and can cover the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds at a speed of 129 mph. With enough room, the Charger Redeye will ultimately reach 203 mph — talk about a high-performance family outing. Fuel economy is rated at 22 mpg when driving calmly on the highway; however, at full throttle, the Redeye would drain the tank in about 11 minutes.
Power Management
Note that the Hellcat Redeye is not simply a Charger with a much more powerful motor. The 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye comes with high-performance Brembo brakes with large 15.7-inch two-piece rotors up front with 6-piston front calipers. The SRT-tuned Bilstein Adaptive Damping Suspension provides a comfortable ride when appropriate, or it can be made stiffer for more enthusiastic driving The driver makes these selections via the SRT Drive Modes selector.
Everyday Driver
Even as one of the most powerful cars on the road, the Charger Redeye works well as an everyday family car. Front seats are heated and cooled, trimmed in soft Laguna leather with an embossed Hellcat logo on the seatback. The Uconnect infotainment system features an 8.4-inch display as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. As a full-size sedan, the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye features a spacious rear seat with plenty of legroom and headroom. Aft passengers also enjoy heated seats as well as dual USB ports.
Ready to Race
The 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye also comes with Line Lock as standard equipment. Line Lock engages the front brakes to hold the car stationary while the rear wheels are free for a controlled burnout, as well as Launch Control which manages engine torque for maximum acceleration. These two features are sure to be family favorites when visiting the local dragstrip.
Arriving Next Year
Dealers will start taking orders for the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye in autumn 2020; the new model is expected to arrive in dealer showrooms early in 2021.
